Veasyble’s Ruff & Ready

I love ruffs, in the bookshop of the Arts Decoratifs in Paris after seeing the Vionnet show; among the Alessi tat I got engrossed in a book about medieval clothing which featured a delicate handmade ruff so voluminous and light I vowed one day to make one.

That day hasn’t happened yet, but I’m still all about the ruffs. Perhaps it’s a subconcious nod to the Mighty Boosh joke about Edwardian ruffs but I still bust a gut when I got given a Cos pleated ruff for Christmas. Still haven’t managed to wear it in an outfit though, Must Try Harder. Anyway, I got sent a link to Veasyble to satisfy my ruff-fetish and their paper pleated accordian ruff. it’s part of a project about intimacy, which is very apt as I’d like to pull the ruff over my head and be in my ruff-cocoon on the tube. I’d love to have all sorts of pleated attachments to my clothes so I could shield my eyes or ears from things I don’t want to see (aka Uggs). It also reminds me that I have a piece of Tyvek in my sewing room which really needs to be made into a skirt, paper rules. Back to the Paris ruff, I could kind of bury my head in that, or wear two at once so the floaty fabric goes over my eyebrows.

The Veasyble people have made also a pleated eyecover, which I’d like to see in organza as an alternative to sunglasses, and a cute snail-like piece which can fit two people. Brilliant, because I hate PDAs, keep it under the shell people!
