Adidas Y3 & SLVR Spring Summer 10

The PR for Adidas recently invited me to see their SS10 collections before it was all put away to make way for Autumn/Winter displays. I loved the Y3 stuff and I hadn’t seen their new SLVR range so I jumped at the chance. Sportswear is a trend I can really get on with, the ripstop, the bright colours, the silky racer backs, the punched leather and the ever-so-comfy rucksacks, if you work alpha-sport female it’s actually quite flattering. By the way, this is another rushed lunchtime post, so excuse the slightly bonkers trains of thought…

So, the yellow, thank goodness there was loads, the Y3 trainers need to be made into a femi-version, perhaps with a wedge? All about the wedge at the moment. Also love the yellow sandals, both pairs of shoes have a really astringent kind of yellow which will cut through all your nudey neutrals like a good vinaigrette. The yellow-lined top is a neat way to vamp up stripes, it needs some clever tucking/layering to expose the lining properly. Y3 also do these amazingly complex jersey tops with loops and straps, I think there was about four of those pieces in all. I would love to spend an hour or so in a changing room playing with all the permutations and layering them over floral blouses, sheer tops and all the semi-unwearable weird charity shop tops stuffed away in my cupboards that need a top like those. The sheer anorak is also a winner, after seeing Christopher Shannon’s brilliant collection at LFW I really fell in love with sheer/semi-sheer rainwear. It would look ace as a rainy summer day cover up over the aformentioned Y3 jersey top layering festival.

I really, really, like riptsop. Maybe because when I first started sewing properly it was all about ripstop (and fleece, and toggles!) but ripstop really tugs on my fashion strings like nothing else. This ripstop bag epitomises the Alpha female sport chic look, I can imagine Olivia Palermo (whaa-aat? I am in love with her sorreee) wearing it with taupe city shorts, ridic heels and a blank-faced snarl. Heehee. Next the vests, these are also SLVR. I love sheer bias binding, and I’m in luck because it’s been cropping up at Gap as well as here. This kind of twist on normal is so important as wardrobe filler to go with a kooky skirt or slightly tricky trousers, you can just sling something like this on to pull it all together and it sits there in the background quietly playing the supporting role.

Lastly the floral, I fell in love with this print at the press day, it’s colourful and flowery without looking girly. The cool flowers and hot-coral stamens make a really good palette for summer and it’s such a shame there wasn’t any womenswear seperates in this print as I would kill for a dress made out of this. Imagine all (fake, obvs) tanned up with some sandal wedges, a tan leather belt and a chic leather bag. Olivia Palermo would have nothing on the faces you could pull in that outfit..
