Catwalk shows are always a great way to get inside the head of a designer, but seeing the clothes up close is always an added bonus. Aquascutum‘s Spring Summer press day allowed me to delve into the collection a little further. On the runway it was all sporty fabrics, classic tailoring with masses of grey (strongly approve) and brights softened to a sorbet finish.
In the flesh it was the leather at Aquascutum that really floored me, supersoft confections in pastelly greys, WANT. The coated tweed was another lust-inducing material, it appeared on bags, trenches and biker jackets. I have a bit of a thing for old-school waxed/coated cotton, the coated tweed is an amazing way to make it luxe. Coating also appeared on shell tops and as detailing on leather jackets reinforcing the sporty-classic theme. More hi-shine in the form of the clear plastic brogues, I gravitated toward these immediately, such a chic way of doing summer flats.
I’m really enjoying the general vibes coming for SS12, seems to be for a lot of designers it’s going to be a season of mixing up traditional crisp tailoring with sporty fabrics and colour. Can’t wait to get my tailored shorts, brogues and neon socks out, hurry up winter!
