Margaret Howell’s SS12 collection is a like a dialogue between France and England, the label’s DNA is very much rooted in the UK but like Kristen Scott Thomas there is also something very French and very chic going on, especially so this season.
Classic tailoring in stripes, bold cobalts and tomato reds gave off a very demure vibe, with knee-length skirts and dresses and loose-fit culottes. Slouchy breton knits and a crisp trench allude to the typically British summer, I can imagine cowering under a tree during a rainstorm.
I like the way these pieces were styled on the catwalk, with patent sandals and double-wrap belts adding definition and a slightly subversive edge to the old-school summer silhouette.
The collection is available instore now and online on the Margaret Howell website.
