Aleksandra Mir’s Triumph at South London Gallery

I don’t usually post twice in a day, but then not many things will have me saying ‘oh my god, oh my god, oh my god’ before I’ve even got in the door.

Aleksandra Mir’s Triumph artwork has made it down to the South London Gallery bang on time for the Olympics as part of their ‘Pursuit of Perfection: The Politics of Sport’ exhibition. I had a quick look in today while out to see the Olympic Torch going past, I first came across her work when I was at interning at wonder-art-mag Parkett, she was showing Antarctica.

As a hoarder of ‘precious things’ this exhibition takes my breath away, but it’s also a refreshing mental mouthwash for all the Olympics corporate PR we’re swimming in at the moment. All the trophies were donated after Mir placed an advert in a Sicilian paper, read an interview with her here for some lovely insights on the donors. Totally recommend making the trip down to South London to visit this show if you can, I’m going back to check out the rest of the exhibition.
