A few weeks ago I was invited to Ireland for the launch of Kildare Village’s Chic Summer Festival, which celebrates all that’s great about Irish food, culture and fashion. I gave you a a little sneak preview here, but here’s my trip in all its glory. I’ll always jump at the chance to stock up on some Mint Crisp chocolate and Tayto crisps so off I headed to Dublin on what ended up being one of their sunniest weeks of summer.
Daisy Lowe hosted a Summer Tea Party to celebrate the launch, in a gorgeously twee room filled with vintage china, flowers and cute cakes. Florist Joe Massey has created some really stunning displays around the Village including a floral catwalk with a dress made of daisys (geddit?) Joe has won Young Florist of the year four years in a row; I had a little chat with him and he’s a lovely guy who is definitely going on to great things.
Daisy had a little Q and A session where she let us into some of her love and essentials including her UK festival essentials (hood and a backpack), talking about the paps ‘there’s a fine line between posing for magazines and actually being stalked outside my house’ and more. Read on for Daisy’s tips and lots of lovely pics from Kildare.
I really like old actresses, like Rita Hayworth, Audrey Hepburn, Bette Davis and Elizabeth Taylor but then I guess I dress really grungey. The pictures you usually see me are of me walking my dog! When I go out for red carpet stuff those are the people I channel. I love Jean Paul Gaultier for powerful shapes, love Elie Saab for feeling like a princess and Dior too. When I was aged seven I was obsessed with bright orange flared cords which I’d wear with a Spice Girls t-shirt.
On staying grounded and healthy: All my best friends are friends I’ve had for years, we love to do dinner and dancing and going to festivals together is really fun. Me and a couple of my friends have each other over for dinner and watch movies. There’s two Mother Hen types in our group, we call ourselves the ‘Mama Ds’. I love my food, I can’t miss a meal or anything (totally a girl after my own heart!) so it’s really important for me to work out. As long as everything you eat you feel good about as opposed to feeling really bad about whatever you’re putting into your body.
Skincare tips: Always take your makeup off before you go to bed, my skin used to be really bad but I think it was down to that. Also, drink lots of water and sunscreen. As far as makeup’s concerned I use the Chanel bases but I’ve just tried the Tom Ford stuff and it’s amazing! I also love Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Brick.
Obvs I’m obsessed with sunscreen, so I asked her for some of her favourites: Skinceuticals is really good, Dermalogica is really good and I always use Kiehls Factor 50 on my body to avoid leathery skin!
Her favourite shops: Miu Miu, Acne and I love Rellik, it’s amazing
Her essentials: My lipbalm, my Acne combat boots and my dog
I always wanted to be a therapist because I like looking after my friends, but I don’t actually know if I could cope with everyone’s problems.
What a lovely spread!
