Trendwatch: Bomber Jacket

Not since me and my schoolfriends all wanted a silver Nice And Safe Attitude jacket -two sizes too big with orange lining thankyouvermuch- have I really given much thought about the bomber, but now that the biker is veering from classic to overexposed my money’s firmly on the bomber. I like the adrogynous shape which feels a bit more modern and in keeping with fashion’s current obsession with all things sporty.

My total fave is the ALC, with leather sleeves and navy wool body. In fact I’ve just remembered I have a jacket just like it already, durr. But it is perfection. For those of you with boyfriends, get them to buy the Oliver Spencer bomber with its knitted sleeves and trad button closure, and then steal it! Ha.

From left: ALC leather sleeved wool bomber jacket: £755, Net a Porter. Surface to Air Ziggy bomber: now £150, Urban Outfitters. Oliver Spencer navy pilot jacket: £345, Coggles. Vintage navy bomber: £20, Rokit.

The LOL-bomber is a must-have if you’re 20 and living in East London, but hactually it can look really good with a sharp pencil skirt, heels and a clutch, in other words the bottom half de rigeur fashion outfit for this season. Go authentic with vintage patterns, I like DKNY’s version it’s the ultimate in sporty luxe and the Garbstore’s offering will place you perfectly in the Prep Zone.

From left: Vintage Moschino jacket: £469, Farfetch.com. DKNY bomber: now £145, My Wardrobe. Vintage varsity jacket: £350, Golden Bear X The Garbstore.

Mmm, that navy bomber reminds me of the old Member’s Only jackets (we all had ‘em as kids, right? And then recycled them when we were 16, thinking the shrunken look was totes slutty on a night out with a “tit flop top”?)

Oh god, they’ve gone all trendy now, by the looks of things http://www.membersonlyoriginal.com/ UGH. Bet Urban Outfitters will be stocking ‘em soon (if they’re not already…)
