Trusting my instincts is something I’m learning to do more and more as I get older, so when I spotted a woman wearing a gorgeous jacket on the tube I have no idea why I didn’t ask her where it came from.

It was dusky pink, with no lining and made from a non-stretch guipure type lace. The cut was simple, cropped and slightly boxy with no collar, in short I fell in love with it. Of course a jacket like that will serve no warming/protecting purpose but who cares when it can make even your most boring outfit look exciting and fancy. Short of making a shrine for it I don’t think there’s anything I can do except: dig out the green guipure dress I was going to eBay, try to craft a similar jacket from an old Primarni frock and search for similar jackets on Shopstyle check, check and check.

A few asides about lace:

My mum is a college lecturer and I once made bobbin lace at one of their open days, so amazingly exciting you would not believe.

Not strictly lace, but once I got so obsessed with dotted swiss and couldn’t find it anywhere that I contemplated sitting with a length of muslin and hand-embroidering the dots like they used to in the Olden Days.
