It was this picture that started it all. A Sartorialist short, of course, of the Italian Stylist Eva Fontanelli. I must have looked at this picture a hundred times, everything about the outfit is just perfect. Her hair (is there a Eva Fontanelli hair thread on TFS? there should be!), the lacy tights and floaty skirt, but above all the coat. LOVE the coat.
It was available from Anthropologie for a while but sold out pretty quickly, so it thus entered the realm of the mythical, or should I say, Mythical. This is where clothes go when you can’t have them. My perfect navy children’s ‘Heidelberg’ sweatshirt is in there, the knitted dress I had a 5-year old with a massive goose and real ribbon is in there, the raspberry metallic Labour of Love shoes I had to send back because they were peeling also live there. Think of it as a heavenly waiting room for clothes.
Anyway, I got the ASOS mailer this week and there it was! Just like seeing someone come back from the grave. Well, not exactly but it definitely spooked me. The Manoush coat is there, on sale but in camel. They have the grey version as a jacket. I know camel is Big This Season, and quite rightly so, but somehow in camel the magic is slightly gone, also the ruffle doesn’t match the wool fabric as well. I guess that’s the moral of the tale like some episode of Eerie Indiana (what is Omri Katz doing now?), you can’t bring back clothes form the dead, it’s just not the same.
