London lunchers will no doubt be familiar with the burrito, it’s still one of my fave choices to fill up my belly but there’s so much more to Mexican than that. Despite to the horrendous acoustics of the canteen-style dining (a pet hate of mine) and the kooky no-booking system I’m also a bit of a fan of Wahaca. So of course when Helen blogged about Buen Provecho I added it to my to-try list, not least because it’s in E&C, and therefore on my doorstep.
I ordered 3 tacos, one of mole chicken, one of beef and one of conchinita, the orangey spiced pork that is my favourite. There were a few people sat at the stall already, but I’m a messy eater and I wanted to eat like a pig in the privacy of my own home so I took it back to my house along with a big glass of horchata. I think the hangover gods were smiling down on me because it was just what I needed. The food from Buen Provecho feels dirtier than your usual Mexican fare, that is to say the tacos were more charred, the spices packed more of a punch and the beef was more earthy which is a good thing. I polished it all off, with sauces all over my hands and face, I just wished I’d saved some more of the horchata! He’s back next week apparently, and I am definitely going to be there, with bells on.
