Tweed Boucle Jackets

Tweed or bouclé jackets never really went away, Chanel’s classic version has ensured that the nubbly trophy jacket is never far from the catwalk. This season though tweed jackets are really having a moment, tapping into the revamped retro trend. Nearly every high-street retailer and designer has produced a version for the season, so I sifted through a ton to find the best jackets around…

From left: Hart biker jacket, $595 from Rag & Bone. Elizabeth and James biker style bouclé jacket, £595 from NET A PORTER. Cable knit biker, £56 from Topshop.

The biker style tweedy jacket immediately gives a bit more of a badass feel than your average blouclé blazer and after Jess Cartner Morely extolled the virtues of the NBJBJ aka the Non-Biker-Jacket-Biker-Jacket I think the gussied-up biker will be here for a few seasons.

From left: See by Chloe knitted jacket, £199 from Farfetch.com. Stitch detail knitted jacket, £45 from ASOS. Oscar de la Renta open knit jacket, £1279 from Farfetch.com.

Knitted jackets are the perfect compromise for those who want cardigan cosiness and none of the hassle of wearing structured tailoring. Chucked on over a dress or with some jeans and a tee-shirt it’s a really easy and lovely thing to wear.

From left: Barbara Bui tweed and leather jacket, £1449 from Farfetch.com. Esprit Le Boucle Blaz, £85 from Zalando. Jason Wu leather-trimmed bomber jacket, £1665 from NET A PORTER.

Contrast trimmed tweed jackets also fall into the badass category, a leather trim here or there works wonders for adding a bit of edge to the grande dame of jackets. Team with spiky jewellery and boyfriend jeans and you’ve got instantly got yourself a classic outfit.

From left: Premium fluoro jacket, £75 from Topshop. Steffen Schraut bouclé jacket, £175 from Stylebop. Alice & Olivia Sydney bouclé jacket, £390 from My Theresa.

Colour is everywhere and has been for a while so why not combine two trends into one and go for a tweed jacket that packs a colourpunch. Go bananas and wear with coloured jeans and bright heels for a dayglo take on the trad look.

Nice round-up. I have been obsessing over bouclé recently. Proper want one. Really want to save enough to go and hunt out a second hand Chanel in a Chelsea chazza.
