The Perfect Breton

Land’s End have come up trumps with the perfect breton, I’ve been looking for a few months for a very specific kind of stripe. It had to be cotton, a thick, stiff knit with a slouchy kind of cool. The kind where, if you roll up the sleeves a little they stay put like a crisp paper bag.

Their Classic Sailor Tee is a reassuringly chunky item which hangs off the shoulders and has a lovely boat neckline. I can’t stop wearing it, it adds a bit of class to plain old jeans and looks great with skirts. The fabric is a bit too heavy for summer, so it’s better for those weird grey days than full on sunshine. Confession time: I actually miraculously found this in a South London charity shop for a few quid, but I think I’m going to buy one in every colour.

American Apparel also do a decent heavyweight breton in their mens’ section but it’s a little baggier and a little pricier.

After a long search it’s satisfying to be able to tick one of the things off my mental shopping list. Next up: any tips for high-waist no-stretch indigo denim?
