Been listening to Spoek Mathambo all day, have to give thanks to Sam, my ‘other other half’ for turning me on to this. He’s seriously addictive, I could listen to Mshini Wam all day. His cover of Joy Division’s Control is really something and the video is hella dark. Love the embroidered tie Spoek is from [...] Talking to my flatmate one evening about the best late night bars, I was trying to explain the appeal of my favourite place, and found these brilliant pictures. Trisha’s or the Hideout is a little bar behind a nondescript door off Soho Square. The Hideout is the perfect place for post-pub drinks, a cosy den [...] I’ve spent a lot of time looking for party decoration inspiration for my birthday next week. Most of my attention has been focused at the Confetti System’s beautiful garlands, their colour schemes are just brilliant. Sherbet-y pastels mixed with sludgy neutrals and metallics is something everyone can get on board with and I think I [...] I love peonies, they lack the stylised fluted shape of a rose, but the flower heads are so fullsome and abundant it more than makes up for it. Magda Indigo’s beautifully shot images of peonies capture that lavish bounty, but with a stark darkness. I almost wish I could eat them, if that makes sense? [...] “Excuse me, can I just…” I usually wave chuggers off with a ‘I spend £30 quid a month in charity shops’ but this is one good cause worth suppporting, as the arts in the UK face something like a 40% cut under a coalition government that has also just scrapped milk for schoolchildren. Really? Webcameron [...] I came across Marianne Breslauer’s pics on the brilliant Weimar Art blog, I love the naturalistic photography. Knitted swimsuits, who’d a thought that I wanted one of those, but I definitely do now. What could be better than hanging out with your femibuds having a fa-ag and shooting the breeze? I came across these Nadav Kander pictures on Krisatomic and was a little bowled over. The colours, and washed out, humid atmosphere that you only seem to get in East Asia. Everything softly muted and slightly dulled. It made me want to pick out a few clothes following this muted palette, with simple neutral pieces [...] Looking up teen photographers for work recently I came across Sarah Rose Smiley, a 16-year old from Wisconsin. Have had this picture saved for ages, the colour has burned itself onto my brain. So obvs, I picked a few turquoisy things that it’s made me want to buy/wear. Bish, bash, bosh. Steven Alan shirt dress, [...] I love Rob Ryan’s paper cuts, this video shows time lapse footage of a giant papercut him and his assistants made for his open studio at Somerset House’s Pick Me Up exhibition. I missed the exhibition, but this is a great chance to see the work in action, and it’s so cool seeing it all [...]  |
