Catwalk shows are always a great way to get inside the head of a designer, but seeing the clothes up close is always an added bonus. Aquascutum‘s Spring Summer press day allowed me to delve into the collection a little further. On the runway it was all sporty fabrics, classic tailoring with masses of grey (strongly approve) and brights softened to a sorbet finish.
Sometimes I waver between going to a press day and having a relaxed full lunch break, I decided to soldier on to the Toast press day and it was wonderfully worth it, I left feeling refreshed and laden with knowledge. One of the designers very kindly took me round, talking about the team’s love of [...] Technical issues (yes Rachael I STILL don’t have broadband!) means this post is a little overdue but there’s nothing like a good weekend blogging catch-up sesh. The Arcadia press day is always a mammoth event, housing Dorothy Perkins, Wallis, Evans, Miss Selfridge, Burton, Topman and Topshop under one roof, it’s a hulluva lot to take [...] Clarks press day AW10: brogues, suede wedges, riding boots, chelsea boots, houndstooth desert boots, and oh my goodness leopard ponyskin brothel creepers! Exciting stuff, they’re all my main shoe groups of lust from the previous winter and it’s all got the Clarks seal of quality which means they should last a few seasons too. On [...] I’m currently feeling the sporty look in a big way, not only is it BOT for SS10 but cycling home from work means that I’m confronted with an endless array of hump backpack covers, cycling shorts, leggings and hi-tech trainers. Then there’s me gently pootling along on my old lady bike drawing vague looks of [...] Jaeger are quite well-positioned to tap into the whole Celine-inspired grown-up chic that’s so popular at the moment. The camel pants that you see to the left (colour’s a little off) features leather trims to make all the fashionistas swoon and as you can see they have quite a few Celine-esque pieces up their sleeve. [...] Thanks to Rachael, and by extension Twineth, for alerting me to how good Radley shoes are at the moment. At a press day today instead of ambling past I made a beeline for the shoes and yes, they are as good as the summer collection. Chunky-heeled lace ups in dirty lime and black have that Heartbeat [...] Oh dear, a pounding headache hangover isn’t going to do the Margaret Howell press day any justice but I can’t let the blog languish any longer. A beautiful, beautiful, colour palette is always something you’ll expect from MH and the buttery, slightly acidic yellow shade she’s using at the moment is near-constantly on my mind. [...] The PR for Adidas recently invited me to see their SS10 collections before it was all put away to make way for Autumn/Winter displays. I loved the Y3 stuff and I hadn’t seen their new SLVR range so I jumped at the chance. Sportswear is a trend I can really get on with, the ripstop, [...] Why the Happiness clip? I’ve just started a new corporate contract waking up EARLY in the morning and my life feels like a black hole of work, dinner, bed, which makes me think of this quote from the film (5.50 mins): Allen: I know who you are and you are nothing.
